Here are a few questions you should ask before choosing a real estate agent.

How Long Have You Been Doing This?

This might seem obvious, but asking how long they’ve been selling real estate is a great first question to ask. Experience doesn’t always equal success, but since real estate is commission-based, it wouldn’t be easy for an agent to survive if they are providing a poor service. Experience is also good because it shows that the agent has likely seen many different situations and will know how to approach difficult ones if they were to arise.

What Area Do You Cover?

Knowing the locations in which your potential agent covers is a great bit of information to have. There are agents who will do almost anything and go almost anywhere in order to make a sale, but that doesn’t mean they’re the right fit for you and what you’re looking for. On the flip side, there are often agents who claim themselves to be experts in a given location. While these can be great, they may try too hard to get you into a place that just isn’t you. It’s important to find an agent who understands what your goals are, and who will work towards getting you there. 

Are You Part Of A Team?

Sometimes real estate agents have teams that help them out. Real estate teams can have many benefits, but it’s always important to get a full understanding of what your relationship with the other members is from the get-go. It can be frustrating if you’re told early on that you’ll be working with one agent the entire time, only to then be passed around repeatedly. The great thing about teams is that there is often a larger level of experience throughout the team, and you may be able to get insights from one member that another couldn’t give you.

There are countless questions you can ask your potential real estate agent, and these are just a few. Make sure to do your research, ask plenty of questions, and think long and hard before making final decisions. If you can do that, you’ll likely end up happy.
